Welcome to my home page. I am one of a host of Cornell faculty who teach and do research in poverty and international development. Here is a listing of development economics courses offered at Cornell, including syllabi as of spring 2010.

My research program also has strong links to international, agricultural, environmental and micro economics as well as to applied econometrics.

Alex Travis, Partha Dasgupta and I recently guest edited a special feature of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences on Biodiversity Conservation and Poverty Traps. The full collection of papers is available at http://www.pnas.org/cgi/collection/biodiversity_conservation.

View my research on SSRN or RePEc.

The new David R. Atkinson Center for a Sustainable Future is a major Cornell initiative aimed at promotig cutting-edge research on sustainable development in collaboration with key external partners to achieve significant real-world impact.

For a brief overview of my research motives and approaches, visit this Cornell Chronicle article entitled, "Chris Barrett takes a collaborative approach to the world's poorest people," published April 18, 2006.

For those interested, I will be directing a three-year working group for young economists – defined as ABD or within 10 years of completing the PhD – on "The Economics of Global Poverty: A Community of Christian Researchers", to be hosted by Calvin College in Michigan starting in July 2012. Details and application instructions are available at http://www.calvin.edu/scs/2012/seminars/cbarrett/.

Please visit the sites listed on the sidebar menu for more information on my research, graduate students, working papers, books, media coverage of my research group, my background and more. For a more abbreviated introduction, try my Department Faculty Home Page.
