Dyson Scholars Program

The Dyson Scholars Program, which was established by the Dyson Foundation, recognizes and provides financial support for academically distinguished undergraduate students majoring in applied economics and management (AEM). The Foundation’s generous gift was made in recognition of Charles H. Dyson’s firmly held belief that financial support is critically important so students can focus their attention on the rigorous academic demands of their college experience.

Selection Process

Dyson Scholars represent the top 10 percent of their class year. They are identified during the summer prior to the beginning of the new academic year as follows:

• Incoming freshmen are selected based on SAT or ACT score
• Rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors are selected based on their grade point average (GPA) earned in the previous two semesters as an AEM major

Students who are selected as Dyson Scholars are notified by the Dyson School before the start of fall semester.

Financial Assistance

Dyson Scholars with demonstrated financial need will be provided with financial assistance, and all Dyson Scholars receive a cash award for books and supplies each semester. Cornell’s Office of Financial Aid and Student Employment administers the financial awards and will notify students of their award prior to the start of fall semester.

Additional Program Benefits

The Dyson Scholars fund can provide compensation to Scholars serving as undergraduate teaching assistants (TA), financial support for faculty-guided independent study and research, and travel and registration expenses to attend conferences, workshops, and case study competitions. The fund can also be used to host guest speakers and sponsor networking activities.
